Felons Use Craig's List to Target Victims

The Clay County Sheriff's Office General Investigations Unit would like to bring a pair of arrests to your attention  The booking photos are related to several cases worked by our agency that involve victims targeted through Craig's List.  The various victims met the suspect(s) in person in Clay County and were either robbed or defrauded.  In the case of the robbery, the victim was injured as he attempted to retrieve his stolen phone from the suspect's moving vehicle.  In the cases involving schemes to defraud, the victims opened the sealed cell phone boxes only to find packing materials and junk items used to create weight - but no new phone.

Holiday shoppers during slow economic times may use Craig's List or other on-line sites to locate bargains and to purchase inexpensive gifts, and that is understandable.  But, as always, if it is too good to be true - it probably is.

Our agency would like to remind on-line shoppers to take every precaution possible to verify in advance that the seller is legit. The two suspects highlighted in this release, for example, are registered convicted felons with arrest histories that are public record and readily available.  We discourage buyers from meeting sellers alone or in isolated areas.
