Waste Management to Award Keep Clay Beautiful with $5000

The Great American Cleanup is the nation’s largest annual community improvement event, takes place annually from March 1 through May31st.  Each year Waste Management awards fifteen Waste Management Great American Cleanup Showcase Awards in the amount of $5,000 and Keep Clay Beautiful is one of the recipients this year.
“Waste Management Great American Showcase Awards are made available to selected communities where Waste Management wants to help improve the community in a special way,” said Amy Boyson, Waste Management community affairs manager.  “We have developed a great partnership with Keep Clay Beautiful and we were excited to present this award for the second year in a row.”
Waste Management will present a $5,000 check to Keep Clay Beautiful at the Board of County Commissioners meeting on March 8, 2011 at 2 P.M.
“Keep Clay Beautiful is honored to be among one of the fifteen Keep America Beautiful affiliates to receive this showcase award from Waste Management,” said Tania Jolley, Keep Clay Beautiful Executive Director. “This donation will allow us to thank our volunteers for their time and effort at the Great American Cleanup.  It is community partners like Waste Management and our volunteers that allow us to keep our county beautiful.”

Last year 881 volunteers collected 7.93 tons of garbage at the St. Johns River Cleanup, which is part of the Great American Cleanup.  This year’s cleanup will take place on March 19th from 8:00 A.M. to noon.  Volunteers are asked to contribute a canned good(s) for the Green Cove Springs Food Pantry and a new or used book(s) for Clay County Women for Education.
