2011 FREE Shred Event in Clay County

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Shred-it and Crime Stoppers will provide a FREE opportunity for citizens to beat identity theft!

Where: Directly across the street from the Orange Park Kennel Club in the overflow parking lot (next to McDonalds). It is located near 455 Park Ave, Orange Park (intersection of Park Ave. and Wells Road). Volunteers from the organizing agencies will be on hand to assist the public. We will also be accepting donations for Crime Stoppers.

February 2nd Clay County Habitat for Humanity ReStore ReOpening

The ReStore of the Clay County Habitat for Humanity (CCHH) affiliate will celebrate a ReOpening on Groundhog Day, February 2nd, 2011, with a Clay County Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting to showcase store improvements, and new affordable housing initiatives being detailed. One of the many ReStore highlights we’ll be celebrating is the fact that because of 2010 donations from Clay
County residents and vendors to our ReStore, we’ve saved 3,579 cubic yards of materials (beds, doors, mattresses, TV’s, etc.) from landing in the landfill – the equivalent of 549 male African elephants!

Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. announced it launched a smartphone application that will help customers find their closest Winn-Dixie, allow them to view the weekly circular and sales for that specific store, and create and manage shopping lists that both sync with computers and can be shared with other users. The easy-to-use app for Apple’s iPhone and Android smart phones is available as a free download through Apple Inc.’s iTunes, the Android Market or through links on Winn-Dixie’s website at

Sam’s Club Brings Christmas Joy to Local Children’s Miracle Network Kids

The Christmas season is not a time that most people want to spend in the emergency room.  The kids who had to make that trip to Shand’s Pediatric Emergency Room on Monday, December 20th, got a little surprise from some local Sam’s Club employees.  Yesterday, fourteen of their employees made a special delivery of toys and some Christmas cheer.  For the past month, all three Jacksonville Sam’s Club locations collected $1400 worth of toys that were donated to Children’s Miracle  Network.

Clay County Health Department Awarded Grant to Improve Access to Primary Care Services

The Clay County Health Department was awarded $375,000 in primary care funding to re-open the Health Department’s clinic location in Green Cove Springs. The funds come from The Haridopolos Primary Care Initiative that is helping health care organizations serving poor families in 36 Florida Communities, including Volusia and Marion Counties. The grant funds are for one year, with a possibility of continuing into future years.

Official Northeast Florida Regional Evacuation Study to be Released

The Northeast Florida Regional Council, in coordination with the Florida Department of Community Affairs Divisions of Emergency Management and Community Planning, and the Florida Department of Transportation, will officially release the Northeast Florida Regional Evacuation Study on Thursday, December 16th at 1:30 p.m.  This event will be held at the University Center at the University of North Florida, located at 12000 Alumni Drive in Jacksonville.
