MS Awareness Week and Walk MS Coming this Spring | Community Spirit
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, North Florida Chapter announced in November open registration for Walk MS 2012, the rallying point of the MS movement. Walk MS takes place every Spring in several locations in the North Florida area. This year, MS Awareness Week will enhance MS awareness during Walk MS season.
MS Awareness Week is a national awareness-raising campaign that will take place March 12-18, 2012. Locally, North Florida residents can register to become MS Ambassadors by calling or emailing the Society and will receive MS Ambassador Kits with materials to help spread MS awareness. Additionally, North Florida residents are encouraged to wear orange and participate in awareness-raising contests during MS Awareness Week. For more information about MS Awareness Week, those interested can visit nationalMSsociety.org/FLN or call the Chapter at (904) 332-6810.
The North Florida Chapter will also host six Walk MS fundraisers in North Florida from March through April, 2012. Walk MS draws hundreds of people from the North Florida area to enjoy festivities, food, music, contests and games with the purpose of creating awareness about multiple sclerosis and raising funds toward a world free of MS.
Funds raised from each Walk MS event will benefit the National MS Society, North Florida Chapter and go toward research, programs and services for the 18,000 people affected by multiple sclerosis in the North Florida area.
In 2011, the National MS Society, North Florida Chapter raised $225,000 through Walk MS. This year, the Society hopes to raise $245,000 toward a world free of MS. Research funds advance the treatment for MS, such as the first oral therapy for MS that was approved by the FDA in 2010.
To register, participants can visit WalkMS.org or call (904) 332-6810.
