Today: 2011 Law Enforcement Special Olympics Torch Run Planned for Clay County

Today, April 18, 2011 the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will be held in Clay County. The run will begin at 10am and go from the Publix located at 410 Blanding (Orange Park) to the Publix located at 865 Hibernia Road (Fleming Island). The route covers approximately 15 miles of roadside and bike trail and typically wraps up by 11:30am.  Lead runners are escorted by uniformed Traffic Unit deputies….so look for the marked units and lights!

This run raises awareness about Special Olympics in Clay County and the special relationship the program has with local law enforcement.  CCSO members of all ranks and ability levels run/walk side-by-side with some of our county’s most heroic young people – Special Olympic athletes!  Participants will be assigned to segments of the route, handing off the Special Olympics torch as they go.

We encourage residents and business people to come outside and cheer on the Special Olympians and their law enforcement running partners as they pass through your area of the route!
