Residents Invited to Donate Gently Used Shoes to Support Disaster Relief in Japan

In the wake of Japan's devastating earthquake and tsunami, Jane Nation is calling upon local residents in its drive to collect at least 100 pair of shoes for Soles4Souls. The effort is part of the charity’s “11 IN 11” campaign to collect and distribute 11 million shoes in 2011 to people living in extreme poverty and recovering from natural disasters.

“Shoes are perennial favorites of most women — we love shopping for and commenting on each other’s shoes — online and off,” said Karen Moran, community manager for JaneNation.com, an online opinion-sharing community for women. “When we learned about the great work being done by Soles4Souls, we knew we could count on our Janes to literally step in to help. We all have a few pair of shoes taking up valuable closet space, and knowing that someone in need could benefit from them makes it easy to donate.”

Benefit Concert This Weekend For Families Of Teens Killed In Boating Accident

MIDDLEBURG, Fla - A two-day benefit concert is being held this weekend for the families of two Middleburg High School students who died in a boating accident on Black Creek February 21st.

More than a dozen local bands will play to raise money for the families of Travis Hanner, 17, and Halee Mickey, 15.

"These families have no insurance and no means of paying for tombstones. We're just trying to help out," said organizer Lenny Smith of Gator Creek Bar and Grill.

It is being held in the parking lot of Gator Creek Bar and Grill at 2710 Blanding Blvd. Tickets are $5 a person. Organizers say all proceeds will go to the families, and hope to collect $30,000.

"It is unreal! You just miss him a lot. You have no idea what you miss until he's gone," said Mitchell Krafft, a friend of Travis who attended the event Saturday.
