Candlelight Vigil for Teens Killed in Boating Accident

Candlelight Vigil for Teens Killed in Boating Accident

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- More than 150 family members and friends remembered two teenagers who died in a boating accident on Black Creek.

Middleburg High School junior Travis Hanner, 17, and freshman Halee Mickey, 15, were killed Monday when the boat hit a tree growing out over the water, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigator Jeff Summers.

Summers said the boat operator, Ted Hanner, was Travis' father.

Ted Hanner, 48, was injured. He is out of the hospital and was at Wednesday night's vigil.

Hanner's stepfather, Jason Green, was also there. "It's just overwhelming the show of love and support. It's just a testament to both Halee and Travis," said Green.

Hanner was an ROTC student who had planned to go into the military, said Middleburg High Principal David Broskie, who didn't know Mickey as well, but described her as shy, quiet and polite.
