New Job Readiness Program for Former Foster Kids

Family Support Services of North Florida (FSS) implemented in January a job readiness program for young adults ages 18 to 21 who have aged out of foster care.

STEP-UP (Skills, Training, Employment Preparation – Ultimate Paycheck) will serve 84 young adults from Duval, Nassau and Clay counties over six months. The new program is funded by a $250,000 federal grant recently awarded to FSS.

Equipment rental company United Rentals is working around the clock in Middleburg this week, where employees are providing construction equipment and services to "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." The build is part of United Rentals' fourth year of partnership with the award-winning television show, which has relied on the industry leader for equipment and volunteers on more than 75 new home constructions.

Jacksonville-Area Family to Receive Clothing During January 2011 Build

For the third time in two years, Dignity U Wear, the Jacksonville-based, national nonprofit that provides brand new clothing to men, women and children in need, will contribute to the ABC hit TV show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition when it begins building a new home for a yet-to-be-revealed Orange Park, FL family at the end of January. Located in Clay County, Orange Park is a Jacksonville suburb, literally in Dignity’s backyard.
