Clay County Kicks off the Great American Cleanup 16th Annual St. Johns River Celebration
Environment, Events

Keep Clay Beautiful in conjunction with Clay County Board of County Commissioners, would like to invite you to the Great American Cleanup kick off event.  The Great American Cleanup consists of many events from March 1st through May 31st.  Clay County will kick off the “Cleanup” March 19, 2011 from 8a- 12p with the 16th annual St.

Johns River Celebration (SJRC).  The SJRC is the largest one-day cleanup of the St. Johns River and its major tributaries.  We currently need volunteers of any age to assist in the cleanup.  Boaters are always needed to get to locations that have been missed in years past.  Students requiring community service hours to satisfy scholarship requirements will receive double community service hours during the SJRC.

Each volunteer is also invited to join us immediately after the cleanup at Camp Chowenwa for FREE Bubba Burgers, hot dogs, and a great T-shirt in appreciation for his or her efforts.  We would also like to ask volunteers to donate a canned good(s) for the Green Cove Springs Food Pantry and a new or used book for the Clay County Women for Education “Feed the body and the mind”.  For more information and locations please contact

Tania Jolley at (904) 284-6374 or (904) 269-6374.  We’d like to thank to our local sponsors; Bubba Burgers, Anheuser Bush, Icelandic Glacial Water, Rich’s Bar-B-Que, Chick-Fil-A (Eagle Harbor), Jones Edmunds and Associates, Advanced Disposal Services, Inc., Waste Management, and the Great American Cleanup National Sponsors: Dow, Glad, Scotts Miracle-Gro, Pepsi,  Wrigley, Waste Management, Solo, Nestle Pure Life, Lowes and Troy-

Bilt. With special thanks going out to Orange Park Amateur Radio Club for providing communications and Chick-Fil-A of Eagle Harbor who will be providing coupons for all volunteers.  This year’s event is being held in memory of two of our long time volunteers who we lost in 2010.  Roger Pangborn and Carolyn lavender, they will be missed.
