Fourth Judicial Circuit Public Defender Matt Shirk will be addressing high school students competing in the Circuit 4 Mock Trial Competition this Friday (2/25/11) at the Clay County Courthouse in Green Cove Springs, Courtroom A (cases will be heard in various other courtrooms to be determined).

Teen Court of Clay County, Florida Inc. is hosting this year’s regional event that features student competitors from Clay, Duval, Flagler and Nassau Counties.

The day-long event consists of two trials; one in the morning starting at 9 a.m. and one in the afternoon starting at 1 p.m.  The Public Defender’s motivational remarks to the participants will take place during the catered lunch hour at noon.  In an effort to show Circuit-wide support for this valuable program, Mr. Shirk will be joined by Assistant Public Defender Chris Clayton from his Nassau County Office who also happens to be a coach of the Nassau County Mock Trial Team.  APD Darcy Galnor from his Clay County office will join him as well.

Volunteer judges for the competition are several County Court Judges from the Fourth Judicial Circuit along with local attorneys recruited by Teen Court of Clay County.
