Middleburg Woman Arrested For Stealing Over Half Million Dollars

JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- Jacksonville police have arrested a woman who stole over a half million dollars, transferring the money from the business where she worked to her personal accounts.

Sara Louise Smith, 31, of Middleburg, is accused of transferring $568,473.63 from Cash In Advance of Florida, Inc. to two personal accounts at Wells Fargo and the Vystar Credit Union.

Cash America owner John Griffin reported the thefts to police in August.   Police subpoenaed her bank records and they revealed ACH transfers from the victim's business bank accounts.

According to police, the thefts occured beginning in October of 2006.

Judge Brent Shore issued a warrant for her arrest on charges of grand theft over $100,000. Smith turned herself in at the jail on the warrant on Thursday November 3rd. Bond was set at $500,003.
